CUH-AVM Exhibits New Quality Management Systems Course at IDSc Conference

Cambridge University Hospitals-AVM attended the 17th Annual Institute of Decontamination Sciences (IDSc) conference on 28 and 29 November 2023 to showcase our newly-released online training course, Quality Management Systems 1 (QMS1).

To ensure ease of use and broad-based accessibility, the course is video-based with interactive elements and is designed to be highly informative and beneficial to staff involved in the decontamination of reusable medical instruments such as surgical instruments or endoscopes.

The format is carefully structured to provide a learning experience that caters to all types of learners, whilst being flexible to accommodate the demanding nature of ever-evolving decontamination roles.

Decontamination departments are tightly regulated by multiple governing bodies and standards to ensure that the reprocessing procedures are safe and effective, and the QMS1 course provides insight into why the enforcement of these standards is essential.

The course uses the story of Florence Nightingale – who is widely considered to be the first QMS manager in healthcare – and her outstanding improvements in the conditions and outcomes of her hospital in the Crimean War to provide context and background to the need for standardisation, uniformity and regulation, along with relevant examples set in modern decontamination departments.

CUH-AVM has collaborated with industry-leading experts to create content that is accurate, informative and aligns with the ‘best practice’ procedures. One of the key collaborators on this course was Jonathan Lintott, Managing Director of Andersen Caledonia, whose extensive knowledge in the creation and implementation of effective quality management systems was highly beneficial to the creation of the course.

CUH-AVM was proud to attend the IDSC in conjunction with Andersen Caledonia to promote the course, which received an extremely positive reception from both delegates and exhibitors.

E-learning Project Development Manager Alfred Belford hosted a prize draw where winners received two free registrations to the QMS 1 course, along with access to our Germs and Decontamination 1 courses – the prize draw received over 70 entries!

2024 holds much in store for new courses, and we are very excited to announce the development of our next course, Decontamination 2, which will take a deeper dive into the processes and precautions involved in Sterile Service Departments and Endoscope Reprocessing Units.
