Meet Our ‘New’ Authorising Engineer

Home 5 News 5 Meet Our ‘New’ Authorising Engineer

AVM is pleased to announce that one of our team – Wayne Hurst – has now qualified as an Authorising Engineer.

Wayne started his career in engineering at the age of 16 and gradually moved into more and more quality control type roles. This led to around 14 years in a hospital engineer role where his interest turned to the decontamination equipment and processes. During this time, Wayne qualified as an Authorising Person and became involved in the control processes for decontamination.

In the summer of 2019, Wayne responded to a position advertised by AVM for a trainee Authorising Engineer and joined AVM in July of that year. Since then, Wayne has worked through the IHEEM Authorising Engineer framework and has now joined a select band of AE(D)s (30 in the UK at time of writing).

This achievement is even more impressive given that this qualification was gained during a pandemic and while Wayne was also earning a BA(Hons) for Business Management that was awarded in 2021.

Wayne told us, “I am really grateful that AVM supported me during the qualification process. They were understanding about delays caused by the pandemic and I never felt any pressure to complete the AE qualification within a timeframe. Now I’m in a position to get on with the job and making a difference.”

What is an Authorising Engineer (Decontamination)?

An Authorising Engineer (Decontamination) or AE(D) is a person designated by management to provide independent auditing and advice on sterilisers and sterilisation, washer-disinfectors and to review or witness documentation on validation.
